For this survey, we sampled clients who tested with us three years ago who were not employed at the time of testing, and are currently 21 years old or older.  The mean age of the respondents was 25. We cast a wide net by sending out over 800 emails and have received responses from 140 clients so far. We are primarily looking at how their employment since testing with us aligns with their aptitudes.

When given the option to make employment-related comments, here’s what some of our alumni had to say:

I am loving what I am learning in the Inside Sales program I am in. I am learning a lot of valuable business and people skills that I believe I will be able to use as I continue learning different aspects of business. Using the aptitudes and skills I learned I have in the Johnson O’Connor test, I hope to eventually be a business owner and investor.

My chosen field allowed me to find a positive balance between sciences (my primary aptitudes focused on numbers and inductive reasoning, and this is largely a data- and statistics-related field) and practical usage, which, interestingly, speaks to my lack of foresight in that, in this field, a project may be taken on (if consulting) and completed within a matter of months. I find this to be an immensely satisfying way of working–to see an end result to my work.

I completed my degree in English Literature with the intent of teaching. The test I took at this establishment told me that my aptitudes were more suited towards business management. I now work full time as the General Manager of a multi-million dollar construction company and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Johnson O’Connor!

At one point I had the option of becoming a retail manager of a clothing chain or training as a lab tech making glasses and learning optical. If I hadn’t taken the aptitude test I might have had a tough decision, both jobs paid about the same. Knowing my aptitudes I wasn’t afraid of jumping into something new because I knew I could be good at it. I am now only working very part time because I also have a one year old baby and my husband is in school, but overall I am satisfied with my job choice. I also have found that I am more aware of my weaknesses and strengths as a mother which makes me more patient with myself and my family.

We did the testing when I was about a semester or two away from graduating, so my degree path was already determined. I’d received a very strong recommendation to go into engineering, to utilize my very high aptitude for [spatial] visualization/reasoning, however the additional years of re-education required would have been way too expensive, so I taught myself web design/development instead. I’m currently working for a web development firm in Northern CA & loving 95% of it, even the challenges.  Hugely thankful to JOCRF for the testing that was done. I was able to make a lot more sense of skills than I would have otherwise.

I am very grateful that I took the aptitude test. I have always had low confidence, and taking the aptitude test gave me the confidence to believe in what I wanted to do. I had been doing administrative work, but I am now getting my masters in fiction writing, which is what I’ve always wanted to do. Thank you!
