The Best-Kept Secret for Career Satisfaction

Do you feel stuck in your career, but you’re not sure why?

You might not be using your natural abilities.

Every career path has a constellation of abilities that are necessary for fulfillment in that field. When your job aligns with the way your mind works, it feels like a match. When your career is fighting your natural approach, the workday can feel long, difficult, or boring.

Since 1922 we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people discover their natural abilities through data-backed aptitude testing that clients call a best-kept secret in career guidance. Our hands-on, interactive assessments are powerful predictive tools that you can use to plan the big and small career steps that are the most likely to make you happy.

84% of our clients say aptitude testing impacted a major life or career decision. Understanding your natural abilities is a shortcut to getting to where you were meant to be.

The JOCRF Difference

...
What are Aptitudes?

Aptitudes are natural talents for doing certain kinds of things quickly and easily.

These abilities aren’t related to what you’ve learned in school or your interests, which can change over time.

Aptitudes are talents you’re born with, so you can use your test results to make decisions throughout your life.

...
Our Tests are Different

Personality tests and interest questionnaires reflect how you feel about yourself at that moment in time.

Our tests don’t consist of answering subjective questions or filling out forms, and they’re not influenced by factors like past experiences or schooling.

We provide objective data about how your mind likes to work and what careers might best match your combination of abilities.

...
How will Aptitude Testing Help Me?

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is one of the most important aspects of career planning.

Aptitude testing provides objective data about the areas you’re likely to succeed in and the ones you might want to avoid.

People tend to be more satisfied and successful in occupations that use their aptitudes.

Thank you for helping me discover my aptitudes and planting a seed of encouragement in me to jump in and do something I would never have imagined doing. You opened up my world in so many ways, and now I get the honor of doing something that challenges me, fulfills me, and is something I truly believe I was made for.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Aptitudes are natural abilities or talents that you’re born with. Our research shows that aptitudes stabilize around the age of 14 and remain relatively stable throughout the lifespan.

There are no good or bad aptitudes or passing or failing scores on our aptitude tests.

Other career tests are often personality or interest surveys that ask you to assess your own strengths and qualities. These assessments can give you a snapshot of yourself that’s influenced by outside factors or limiting self-beliefs.

Aptitude testing is different. Our tests are performance-based and provide objective, neutral data about your innate abilities.

Our research shows that choosing a career that matches your aptitudes leads to greater career fulfillment and success.

Because aptitudes are stable over time, the results from our tests don’t expire and can always be used to make informed career decisions.

We’re a nonprofit research institute that’s been researching human abilities since 1922.

    We measure 21 aptitudes like:

    • Spatial visualization
    • Reasonings (inductive, analytical, and numerical)
    • Idea flow
    • Goal-setting
    • Visual aptitudes
    • Auditory aptitudes
    • Dexterities
    • Workplace personality and more!

The majority of our tests were developed by our founder, Johnson O’Connor, and are unique to our organization.

Clients also take an industry-standard career interest survey called The Self-Directed Search.

Our tests are a hybrid of hands-on and digital assessments. Testing must take place in one of our 15 testing centers across the U.S.

This is a one-on-one testing environment. Clients test at their own desk with headphones (digital tests) or in an office with a test administrator (one-on-one tests). Clients are not tested in a group setting.

Our tests feel like puzzles or games. Some are as short as a couple of minutes, and others are as long as twenty minutes. There’s a lot of variety throughout the day.

There’s no advanced studying or preparation required.

Test results are discussed in 60-90 minute consultation sessions on a separate day from the testing. There’s a second consultation appointment available within the first year of testing.

There are two in-person testing sessions, each about three hours long.

The results appointment is 60-90 minutes and held on a separate day from testing. Most clients choose a Zoom results appointment, but they can also be held in-person.

Many of our clients opt for a one-day testing format (testing in the morning and afternoon with a lunch break in the middle of the day), but you can also split the testing over two separate mornings or afternoons.

Half of our clients are students aged 14+ and the other half are adults.

Aptitude testing is especially helpful for people making a personal transition in their careers or lives, but it’s also a fun, interesting way to learn more about yourself.

Our clients use the information from their aptitude testing to make decisions about:

    • Career changes
    • Graduate school or upskillling
    • Returning to the workforce after time away
    • Accepting a management position or starting a business
    • Taking on new projects at work
    • Planning for a second career and more!

Aptitude testing provides self-knowledge that can help you better understand the choices that will be most likely to make you happy.

That’s okay! Aptitude testing isn’t like taking the SATs. Our tests are interactive and feel more like puzzles or games. There are no good or bad scores on our tests or anything to study or prepare for, which takes the pressure off.

Plus, unlike many of the online career assessments available, you’ll have dedicated staff with you to guide you through the experience and your test results.

Many of our clients actually think the testing is fun!

We charge a flat fee of $950 for our service.
