JOCRF and PSA—Helping students together

We are proud to announce a new program we are associated with. It is designed to help financially underprivileged high school students, particularly minorities, identify and pursue satisfying, successful career paths in New York. The Partnership for Student Advancement (PSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2004 by Anne Bonfiglio, its current executive director. As part of its overall program, PSA sends students to the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation’s New York office for aptitude testing. Armed with the test results and career information gained from attending classes sponsored by the Exploring program, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America, personal coaching, business readiness training, mini-internships and job shadowing, students will be better equipped to make wise career and educational choices.

Last year, PSA began its pilot project in partnership with Norman Thomas High School in New York City. Working directly with the school's career counselor, PSA chose three students for its program which started out with the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation’s aptitude test battery in its New York office. This year, PSA plans to send 10 to 15 students from the High School of Leadership and Public Service in New York for aptitude testing, as the first step in the PSA program for this new group. The hope is that each year, with increased public awareness and funding, PSA will be able to help more and more students.

Funding sources are being sought from foundations, corporations and individuals interested in helping youth.

For more information about PSA visit their website.
